American Airlines worker was struck and killed by vehicle Monday morning, police say

An American Airlines worker at Charlotte’s airport was killed Monday morning after being struck by a cart that services aircraft.
A photograph posted online showed several dozen ramp workers gathered in tribute to a fallen coworker.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in an email: “At 9:38 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, CMPD was dispatched to a call for service at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport referencing an employee reportedly struck by a vehicle on the tarmac. The employee was pronounced deceased on scene by first responders. This is an ongoing investigation.”
An airport spokesman said:
This morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., a single-vehicle accident involving an airline ramp vehicle occurred at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Emergency and medical crews responded promptly. Sadly, the individual involved did not survive. Our deepest condolences go out to the employee's family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. The Airport is working closely with airline and first responder partners in the ongoing investigation and is providing support as needed. Airport chaplains are available on site.
An American Airlines spokeswoman confirmed in a statement that the worker was an American employee. She said in a statement:
We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte International Airport (CLT). Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time.
