Announcing the Charlotte Ledger 2021-22 Reporting Internship
Are you a college student interested in gaining professional experience in new media journalism? Here's how to apply for our internship.
Announcing the Charlotte Ledger Reporting Internship 2021-22
Deadline to apply : June 15, 2021
The Charlotte Ledger, one of Charlotte’s fastest-growing, most dynamic new media companies, is seeking a rising college junior or senior to work as a reporting intern for the 2021-22 academic year.
Internship components: The Ledger intern will generate story ideas, write stories, comb through and summarize local news articles and take photographs that will appear in our newsletter and on our website. The position is remote, but some assignments will require in-person interviews in the Charlotte area. The intern will be in frequent phone and email communication with Ledger editors who will provide coaching and editing.
Dates/hours: The internship will coincide with the 2021-22 academic year calendar of the intern’s college or university. The intern will work 8-10 hours per week for The Ledger.
What we’re looking for: Clear, concise, lively writing, a can-do attitude, and a love for local news. We’re a fast-paced news organization that values smart thinking, original and timely story ideas and an openness to improvement and innovation. This isn’t a fetch-our-coffee or rewrite-press-releases internship — you’ll be generating and executing stories and helping produce our newsletter.
Pay: $100/week stipend.
How to apply: Provide these three things to Ledger managing editor Cristina Bolling at cristina@cltledger.com. Please try to include them as attachments within the same email, and include the word “Internship” in the subject line:
3 clips (either published work or submitted class material)
a letter of recommendation from a university faculty member or an editor/supervisor if you have had a previous journalism internship or job
a cover letter about your writing/journalism background and why you are interested in interning with The Charlotte Ledger
Applicants who qualify will complete a writing assignment as part of the application process.
What is The Charlotte Ledger?: The Charlotte Ledger is a digital publication that provides original, business-y stories and local news to Charlotte through four weekly newsletters and a website.
