Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to open 2 hours late Thursday; look for temperatures to gradually climb through the weekend
by Cristina Bolling and Steve Lyttle
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will open on a 2-hour delay Thursday, after a winter storm Tuesday night brought freezing temperatures and precipitation to the area.
In a message to families, CMS officials said:
For tomorrow, Thursday, January 23, 2025, all schools will operate on a two-hour delay.
Buses will pick up two hours later than their regular schedule. Schools will resume testing tomorrow and dismiss at their regularly scheduled dismissal time. There will be no early dismissal exam for high schools tomorrow.
All other activities, including ASEP, facility use, and programming will be on their normal schedules. Before School programs will operate on a 2-hour delay as well.
CMS didn’t give a reason for the delay in its messaging. Roads in many areas of the county were clear by Wednesday afternoon, but some areas may still be icy overnight.
Warm-up coming: Temperatures should climb into the high 30s during the day Thursday, but will drop into the 20s overnight.
Look for highs in the mid to upper 40s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday — which will feel downright mild after the frigid past few days.
