Charlotte brewery giant Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is planning another expansion, one that will serve as a major tenant in a new development in the middle of Ballantyne.
Northwood Investors, which is redeveloping a portion of the old golf course behind the Ballantyne hotel, announced Tuesday that the OMB planned for its Ballantyne Reimagined development will be “the largest brewery concept in south Charlotte.”
It will have:
14,000 s.f. indoor space
a 7,000 s.f. patio dining area
a second-level mezzanine balcony overlooking a one-acre, tree-canopied biergarten
It will be an anchor tenant for “The Bowl at Ballantyne,” which is the development’s food, entertainment and shopping district scheduled to open in 2023.
OMB founder John Marrino said in a statement:
We are thrilled that the south side of Charlotte will be able to enjoy our world-class beer and unique restaurant and biergarten atmosphere without having to drive across town. Northwood does things right, and The Bowl will be a truly fantastic live, work and play community. We’re proud to be a part of it.
OMB is the first tenant announced for Ballantyne Reimagined. OMB’s flagship brewery is in the area known as “LoSo,” or Lower South End, and it has also announced plans for satellite locations in Cornelius and Mount Holly. It was Mecklenburg’s largest brewery by beer production in 2020, the most recent year for which figures are available.
Ballantyne Reimagined is a 525-acre mixed-use development under construction by Northwood, in the heart of Ballantyne on what used to be The Ballantyne Hotel golf course.
Plans for the development include a stream park, walkable shops and restaurants, an amphitheater and connectivity to Four Mile Creek Greenway. Residential development, including some 1,000 apartments, are expected to be completed in 2024.

I am beyond excited for this! We’ve been customers/patrons of OMB since their first small location. Best thing is we can walk!
