Don’t get your hopes up for happy hours or Sunday ABC sales this year, House speaker says
N.C. House Speaker Tim Moore talks to reporters following a discussion at the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance uptown on Monday.
House Speaker Tim Moore says he doesn’t foresee any changes to the state’s alcohol laws in the legislature’s session set to start in April.
Although there were proposals last year that would allow ABC stores to open on Sundays and for bars and restaurants to offer low-priced drink periods known as “happy hours,” Moore said the General Assembly will likely wait until 2025 or beyond to make additional modifications. The legislature passed new laws in 2022 that allowed the sale of alcohol at college sporting events and modified permitting requirements to help ease tight supplies of liquor.
