In April of 2007, Larry Farber launched Music with Friends at Spirit Square’s McGlohon Theater with a private concert featuring Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers. That same season, members were treated to shows by Gladys Knight and Tony Bennett.
“I always felt like the best way to enjoy music is in an intimate setting. I had this dream of shrink-sizing the experience in a more acoustically perfect setting,” said Farber, who attended Myers Park High School and has been in the music business his entire adult life.
Since then, private and VIP music experiences in Charlotte have taken off, drawing fans willing to pay a premium for memorable performances with top-notch food and drink. Other, less-expensive “underground” options also tap into the trend of fans seeking new ways to enjoy music in smaller settings.
