Charlotte’s first triplexes hit the market – and they look like a million bucks

Some of the first triplexes built in Charlotte neighborhoods under the city’s new development ordinance are starting to hit the market — with an asking price of about $1M apiece.
The Ledger reported last year that a company called Aspen City Homes was moving quickly to take advantage of new development rules that allow the construction of duplexes and triplexes in single-family neighborhoods.
The construction, which is mostly in south Charlotte, prompted alarm in some neighborhoods because of concerns about parking and the building of homes that some residents say are out of character with their neighborhoods. The new rules took effect in 2023, after the City Council voted narrowly to approve the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), which revised regulations that govern how Charlotte grows. The duplex and triplex provisions were among the most controversial parts.
