It’s an intriguing time for Charlotte’s real estate industry.
There’s widespread agreement on the need for more housing. But even in a city like Charlotte, which is growing quickly, economic conditions are forcing many developers to put on the brakes.
David Ravin, CEO of Charlotte-based residential developer Northwood Ravin, speaks with Charlotte Ledger editor Tony Mecia about the conundrum. They also discuss:
Ravin’s background in architecture, real estate — and a very brief stint in law school.
Charlotte’s real estate community, particularly some of the figures that emerged from real estate giant Crosland in the 2010s.
The development of Birkdale Village, which Ravin worked on at Crosland.
Whether it’s easy to be a developer in a growing city like Charlotte, or not.
What the future holds for the real estate industry in Charlotte.
Ravin was in the news recently: In November 2022, UNC Charlotte announced that it was renaming its architecture school the “David R. Ravin School of Architecture” following a generous gift from Ravin that will enhance the school’s programs and visibility. He is a 1994 graduate of UNC Charlotte and reflected on his time there in the podcast interview.
