Checking in on Charlotte's small businesses

The Ledger talks to small businesses who attended the Charlotte Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo to gauge the health of this part of the economy

Small businesses employ nearly half of the nation’s workers — so how are they doing?

In this edition of The Charlotte Ledger Podcast, we interview 8 Charlotte small businesses — rapid-fire style, for a couple minutes each — to gain insights on the opportunities and challenges they face. We conducted the interviews on March 30, 2023, at the Charlotte Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo at the Park Expo and Conference Center.

The businesses ranged from industries from photography to security to fitness — and we asked them about the challenges they’re facing in a post-pandemic economy.

We also talked to Jessica Helms from the Charlotte Area Chamber, who organized the expo. The chamber has 450 members as of March 2023.

In this episode of The Charlotte Ledger Podcast, you’ll hear from:

  • Ada Stevens of Snap Happy Photos

  • Isaac Yisrael of Blackstone Security

  • Dave Chen of D&M Restaurant Supply

  • Mariana Orzech of Promotion Magic

  • Andrew Carlson of Veterinary Emergency Group

  • Molley Corely of Yoga Six

  • Jennifer Canas of BSI Solutions

  • Evan Preslopsky of Venture X

We hope you enjoy the conversations.
