Cheerleaders could start training Sept. 30 and football players could start on Oct. 12, under a proposal presented to the school board on Wednesday.
High-school athletes in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools could return to training with their teams by the end of October, under a recommendation from athletic directors presented to the school board on Wednesday.
The schedule staggers the return of training based on the state athletic association’s start dates for practices. Cross-country and volleyball, which are allowed to start formal practices in early November, were allowed to start conditioning this week.
Even sports that are not scheduled to start until the spring, such as baseball and track and field, could start working out as soon as Oct. 26, according to the timeline.
The school board on Wednesday approved a plan to start returning students to classrooms on Nov. 2, although high school students would not return for instruction before January.
