Real estate nerd alert: County’s Polaris real estate database is new and improved
Attention, real estate pros and people curious about how big a castle your plastic surgeon lives in: Polaris, Mecklenburg County’s land records and property ownership database, rolled out its first update in 10 years last week, and now has some snazzy new features.
Polaris, which stands for Property Ownership Land Records Information System, has a host of easily searchable information, from who owns a property at a particular address to how much your neighbor pays in property taxes.
The site is maintained in-house by Mecklenburg County’s Geospacial Information Services (GIS) Department. That department has been working for about a year on the Polaris 4.0 update, said Todd Wilson, a GIS solutions manager with Mecklenburg County.
The site logs about 250,000 searches every month, Wilson said, and staff felt that after a decade without an update, it was time to take some of the feedback they’d received from users and make improvements.
