Dining trends in Charlotte's retirement communities, with Hanna Raskin of The Food Section

Hanna Raskin, founder and editor of The Food Section, talks about her dining experiences at six Charlotte retirement communities

Hanna Raskin is the editor and founder of The Food Section, a subscription newsletter and website that provides original, inclusive and independent reporting on food and drink in the American South.

The Ledger published one of Raskin’s pieces last month about some of the culinary options offered at retirement communities in Charlotte. She visited six retirement communities to assess the trends and options available in their dining facilities. Read the full article here.

Hanna joined the Ledger’s Cristina Bolling on The Charlotte Ledger Podcast to talk about her experiences dining at some of Charlotte’s most popular retirement communities. In this episode, Raskin also shares:

  • Raskin’s background in food journalism and why she started The Food Section.

  • The importance of food in the lives of seniors.

  • The evolving dining experiences in retirement communities.

  • Aspects of the retirement community dining experience, including meal plans, menu diversity, restaurant-like atmospheres and the influence of senior preferences on food offerings.

  • Broader trends in Southern food, including emergence of membership plans and subscription services in restaurants

We hope you enjoy the conversation with Hanna Raskin. For more information on The Food Section, visit TheFoodSection.com.
