Fostering an entrepreneurial spirit, with Todd Buelow

Dualboot Partners principal Todd Buelow's 25-year career as an entrepreneur is centered around servant leadership. He discusses the importance of having a network and finding fulfilling work.

Todd Buelow is an entrepreneur at heart. In high school, he started a lawn mowing business with one of his friends to avoid working long shifts at McDonald’s for $5 an hour like most other teenagers in Allendale, N.J., in the ’80s.

Buelow worked half the amount of time but earned five times as much money as they did. He realized that the key to a lucrative career was working smarter, not harder.

As he got older and expanded his entrepreneurial work, he also discovered that the key to a fulfilling career was being passionate about his work and helping others.

Buelow is the founder and principal of Dualboot Partners, a business and software development company in Charlotte, and co-founder of Bella Tunno, a silicone baby product company, with his wife, Michelle. He’s also a founding member of Elogex, Cloud Logistics and Castle Digital Partners, and serves on the boards of Speedway Children’s Charity, American Football Without Barriers, SIM Charlotte, and Bounce Out the Stigma

In this episode of The Charlotte Ledger Podcast, Buelow discusses:

  • How growing up 5-foot-2 shaped his outlook on life as someone who is now 6-foot-3.

  • His definition of servant leadership and how he built his network.

  • A top-secret trick to get someone’s cell phone number (for business reasons, of course).

  • How he decides which endeavors to pursue and how to allocate his time.

  • When he punted a football at his first Penn State team practice and hit former NFL quarterback Kerry Collins and former Penn State coach Joe Paterno with the ball.

Buelow was awarded The Ledger’s 40 Over 40 Award in 2021 for his entrepreneurial work and commitment to helping children and those less fortunate.

This podcast episode is part of a series highlighting winners of The Ledger’s 40 Over 40 awards, which honor and celebrate the unheralded people over the age of 40 who are making impactful contributions to Charlotte. It’s hosted by Steve Dunn of Miles Mediation and Arbitration.
