600 turn out to uptown hotel to listen to Jewish hip-hop concert

Who can get a bunch of Charlotte teens dancing in the aisles? How about Nissim Black?
The American-Israeli rapper performed Jewish hip hop at a Hanukkah concert Sunday attended by 600 at the Le Meridien Charlotte hotel uptown. Chabad of Charlotte hosted the show, the latest in a colorful line of Hanukkah observances.
Past celebrations included the lighting of giant menorahs made of ice and LEGOs (not at the same time). The Chabad-Lubavitch movement, long prosperous in Charlotte, is a branch of Hasidism. The eight nights of Hanukkah mark the rededication of the Temple 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem.
The story is familiar to generations of Jewish kids who can’t wait until sundown to light a candle and receive a present: The Maccabees reclaimed the Temple and, miraculously, their supply of oil lasted eight days, long ago to cleanse the holy space. That’s why a candle on the menorah is lit each night for eight nights.
Hanukkah ends on Friday.
