Help us write a rap song about the real 8 a.m. in Charlotte
We're asking readers to tell us what they were doing at 8 a.m. today, and we'll use the replies to write better rap lyrics than Drake
Can The Ledger write better rap lyrics than Drake? Help us create an authentic song about ‘8AM in Charlotte’
Canadian rap superstar Drake released a new song Thursday called “8AM in Charlotte.” But it has no lyrics about 8 a.m. or Charlotte.
We are inviting our readers to help us correct that injustice. Yep, The Ledger is going to write a rap song. About Charlotte. At 8 a.m.
Maybe this is a terrible idea, or maybe it’s genius: We are asking you to let us know, briefly, what you were doing this morning at 8 a.m. Maybe you were stuck in traffic on I-77, dropping off your kid at school, on a Zoom call with your boss, eating a bowl of cereal or watering your lawn. No matter how mundane, let us know, and the more specific, the better.
We’ll compile the responses and get a song written and possibly performed. (We’re still ironing out those details, but we have some promising leads.)
But it all starts with you. So let us know, via email or in the comments: What were you doing this morning at 8 a.m.?
Incidentally, we have come to learn that the actual “8AM in Charlotte” follows other Drake songs with times and cities, such as “4PM in Calabasas” and “5AM in Toronto.” It has some inappropriate words. (We’ll keep our version clean, probably.)
Let’s do this!
