Jason Hlewicki is the director of special projects and commercial construction at Swinerton, a general contracting firm based in California with regional offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, and other cities. Hlewicki specializes in restaurant construction.

In a conversation with Tony Mecia on The Charlotte Ledger Podcast, Hlewicki shares trends in restaurant construction in Charlotte and the Carolinas, as well as the broader construction industry. Hlewicki also discusses:

  • Charlotte’s growing restaurant industry, including culinary hubs from Lake Norman to uptown to Ballantyne.

  • The state of business in the Carolinas, especially in hospitality and multifamily construction.

  • The different trends within subspecialties in restaurants, including fine dining, casual dining, breweries, taprooms, delis, bakeries and coffee shops.

  • How restaurant design has evolved from enclosed spaces to more open concepts, with a focus on communal areas, open kitchens and indoor-outdoor dining experiences.

  • The shift from closed-in, dark wood interiors to today’s open, industrial-style designs.

  • The outlook for the construction industry, which has struggled with inflation, supply chain challenges and labor shortages

We hope you enjoy the conversation with Jason Hlewicki.
