When you think of landscaping, you might think of your own yard.

But as the Charlotte area grows, landscaping is also a growing industry — and one that has undergone significant changes in recent years. Broader shifts in technology, environmental awareness and labor challenges are pushing the landscaping industry to become more sophisticated and professionalized. What was once seen as a basic maintenance service is now a complex industry that involves everything from sustainable practices to advanced turf management.

In this episode of The Charlotte Ledger Podcast, Nate Negrin — the owner and president of SouthernEEZ Landscaping — breaks down the challenges and the changes in his industry, in a discussion with Ledger editor Tony Mecia. SouthernEEZ is a Charlotte-based full-service landscaping and maintenance company that was recently recognized on the prestigious Inc. 5000 list for the third consecutive year for its strong growth.

Negrin discusses:

  • What led him to leave a career in the banking industry to buy a landscaping company

  • The challenges he faced in the early years of business.

  • Emerging trends in the landscaping industry, from technology such as robo-mowers to the increased pace of corporate consolidations

  • How changing preferences from consumers and regulators are driving the adoption of environmentally friendly practices, including stormwater control and urban tree planting.

  • The importance of customer service in standing out in a crowded industry

  • Advice to keep your lawn healthy.

We hope you enjoy the conversation with Nate Negrin.
