Last chance: Don't miss our series on small business owners
Coming next week in The Ledger: ‘Built to Last’ series — for paying members only!
Next week, The Ledger has a special series called “Built to Last” that will be available only to our paying members.
We’ll introduce readers to several Charlotteans who’ve grown or built businesses in vastly different industries, and they’ll share lessons they’ve learned in leading their companies that will be good food for thought no matter what field you work in.
The series starts Tuesday. It will available only to paying members. If you want to read it, you’ll need to join. Otherwise, you won’t hear from us for more than a week. We’ll return with regular issues to your inbox on Monday, July 11.
We give away more than half of our articles for free. But they’re not free to produce. Our writers aren’t volunteers — they’re professionals. We can pay them to write smart, relevant articles about Charlotte only because enough of your neighbors support The Ledger financially. Join us!

If you’ve thought in the past about joining The Ledger as a paying member, now is a good time:
You’ll get the “Built to Last” series.
You’ll get full access to everything we produce — scoops and insights about Charlotte you simply can’t find elsewhere.
And if you want, you can catch up on news you might have missed recently, like insights on the bankruptcy case by the David Tepper real estate company, the details on 1,100 housing units planned on Rea Road by Piper Glen in south Charlotte, what the return of conventions means for Charlotte’s hospitality industry, why some City Council members are skeptical of a new arts funding plan, the latest on the Brooklyn Village plans uptown … and those were just in the last week or so.
Plus, you’d be supporting an innovative, forward-looking company whose only mission is to tell you about your community. Many readers tell us they love The Ledger because it is refreshingly free of bias. We believe that if you’re well-informed, you’re smart enough to form your own beliefs — so we arm you with information. We don’t tell you what to think.
We hope you will join us as we work to transform and improve journalism in Charlotte.
A few ideas for the long 4th of July weekend
Read local books: Last month, we compiled a list last month of books by authors in the Carolinas. And a list from last year, too.
Road trip: Last year, we put together a list of 9 ideas for a post-Covid road trip, within a few hours from Charlotte.
Peaceful walk: We put together a list last year of 8 peaceful walking trails in the Charlotte area.
Crosswords: We’ve developed 19 different crossword puzzles, with Charlotte themes and clues — including a new one this week about the 4th of July. (They’re free.)
Have a great weekend. —Your friends at The Ledger
