Former N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory, who co-chaired a failed national effort to recruit a centrist presidential candidate, says the efforts fell apart because of “threats” to the organization’s leaders and staff.
Speaking Tuesday to the Rotary Club of Charlotte, McCrory said the idea of finding candidates who want to tackle tough issues by working with leaders of both political parties is more important than ever. But for the first time since stepping down as co-chair of “No Labels” in March, he elaborated on why the job couldn’t get done.
