North Carolina redesigns driver's licenses to thwart counterfeiters

New N.C. driver’s licenses have more than 50 security features including the state’s flower, grazing mustangs, a lighthouse and … the marbled salamander?
In a move intended to foil fake-ID creators, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles has redesigned the state’s driver’s licenses, driver’s permits and identification cards — and they’ve got unusual graphics and holograms galore.
The new cards are “the most secure credential in state history and among the most secure identifying documents in the world,” according to an NCDOT announcement about the new cards.
If the newly designed North Carolina driver’s licenses and ID cards seem cluttered, that’s because they have new security features designed to make it harder to create fake IDs.
