Pineville’s ban on door-to-door sales faces pushback by a pest-control company; town may ban solicitation from nonprofits, which is currently allowed
A Pineville rule limiting who can knock on doors in residential neighborhoods is under legal scrutiny, with a pest control company arguing that it is unconstitutional and unfairly blocks businesses from selling.
The town’s ordinance allows only nonprofits and churches to solicit — and only with a permit and a $1,000 bond — leaving private companies like Charlotte-based Moxie Pest Control unable to sell door-to-door.
The Pineville Town Council held a public hearing Tuesday night to gather input from residents and discuss the possible solutions to its “Peddlers and Hawkers” ordinance.
