Plaza-Midwood's social district thrives, with $25K in cup sales
The 15 participating businesses reported increased sales, especially during neighborhood events

Plaza Midwood’s social district has sold $25,000 in reusable cups since March, creating a ‘community spirit’ among participants
In the 10 months since Plaza Midwood launched the city’s first social district — a designated area in which adults can walk around with alcoholic beverages in a special stainless steel cup — more than 3,200 reusable cups have been sold in the 15 participating bars and restaurants, social district organizers say.
The number is what neighborhood leaders were expecting when they launched the social district in March. “But what we didn’t expect was the community spirit,” said Phillip Gussman of the Plaza Midwood Merchants Association.
