Residents opposing Piper Glen development gear up for Monday zoning meeting with T-shirts, charter buses; Native American dance group unavailable

Residents opposing a controversial Rea Road/Elm Lane rezoning are gearing up for a long-awaited Charlotte City Council public hearing on the project that’s scheduled for Monday. 

The proposal is to build 640 homes in Piper Glen — a mix of 500 apartments and 140 single-family houses and townhomes. The developer, Russell Ranson, initially proposed 1,100 housing units but dropped the number after opposition.
