If you have ever thought “Hey, I should really sign up for the full, paid version of The Charlotte Ledger,” now is the time — because next week, the price will rise.
The good news is that if you subscribe to The Ledger with an annual plan today, you’ll lock in the lower price for a year: $99. That will grant you full access to everything The Ledger produces — original, relevant, thoughtful information about our community from a locally owned company that’s run by experienced journalists.
After Feb. 16 (Sunday), an annual subscription will cost $129. You would save $30 by subscribing today.
We are raising prices because our costs are going up and are higher than they were in 2020, when we set our current rates. Since then — when The Ledger was a one-person operation with a single newsletter — The Ledger has added three distinct newsletters, a weekly podcast, an annual awards ceremony (the 40 Over 40 awards), election guides, an events board, coverage of healthcare and the arts and severe weather alerts.
We’ve expanded the number of in-depth, investigative articles. We’ve invested in talented local writers who more fully capture the dynamics of our growing city. As we’ve grown, our expenses have, too.
We believe The Ledger remains a good deal — it works out to $10.75 a month — and we think our nearly 5,000 paying members do, too. A Ledger subscription remains far less expensive than other local subscription-based digital publications, national news publications, movie streaming services and many other subscriptions that compete for your attention. (There are, of course, plenty of free options — especially those that specialize in breezy topics and are loaded with ads.)
Six days a week, The Ledger delivers original news and insights about Charlotte — reliable and relevant information that you literally can’t find elsewhere, from emerging trends to profiles of interesting people in our midst to analysis of important developments to news our reporters uncover. Because of reader support, when something crucial happens — like a hurricane flooding the N.C. mountains — we’re able to deploy resources and keep you informed.
We’d love to have you join our community of paying members. If you have considered it and are ready, there won’t be a lower price than there is today. (Be sure to choose the “annual” option to lock in the lower price for 1 year.)
Thank you again for reading The Charlotte Ledger.
