Ely, thank you for a "good news" article for us cyclist folk! Is it rude to say "It's about freaking time?'' An avid "roadie" that lives outside the City proper, I enjoy the somewhat less traveled roads of southern Lincoln, and eastern Gaston counties. But how nice would it be to travel from my home near Mt. Island Lake, to Uptown via Hwy 16, on a protected bike lane? Game changer! But small steps abound, and the lanes in the City are a nice beginning. Fingers crossed for some of the major arteries seeing bike lanes in the near future!
I reside off of 5th Street near I-77 and most of the time, drivers are using the bike lanes as parking spots stretching from the CVS at Graham and 6th Street to 5th and Irwin Ave. What does the city plan to do to deter this behavior, if any?
I hear you. I have experienced that as well, but more on the east side of uptown portion of the cycle track. I think the police should be directed to enforce no parking in the bike lanes.
