We can send you fewer emails, if you want
The Ledger doesn't want to bombard you with unwanted emails. Here's how you can adjust the different email newsletters you receive from us.
Dear Ledger reader:
If you’re like me, you get a ton of emails — some of which you want, some of which you don’t.
I’m writing to let you know that with The Charlotte Ledger, we don’t want to clog your inbox with unwanted emails, and there’s a way you can adjust your email preferences so that we’re not overburdening you.
We’re already mindful of this: We don’t send you six emails a day to share “news alerts” of questionable value. Instead, we work hard to pack every newsletter we send with original, interesting and insightful Charlotte-focused information. Our readers typically receive five or six emails a week from us. We’re working to build a relationship with our readers based on trust, not on web traffic or trickery.
The Ledger offers four distinct newsletters:
our core Charlotte Ledger Business Newsletter, with free and paid versions, four mornings a week
our Ways of Life obituaries newsletter for paying members, on Tuesdays
the free Transit Time newsletter on local transit and transportation, on Thursdays (in partnership with WFAE)
our free Fútbol Friday newsletter on Charlotte FC, on Fridays during the season
A lot of people enjoy all four. But people are different. If you’re not a fan of one or two or even (gulp) all four of our locally focused newsletters, you can opt out of the ones you don’t want.
Here’s how:
Go to the “My Account” page at charlotteledger.substack.com. (You might be asked to log in or create a password, or send a confirmation email — make sure you use the same email address at which you receive Ledger newsletters.) It’s in the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner of the main Ledger page.
Use the buttons to add or drop the different newsletters — if they’re green, you’ll get them, if they’re gray, you won’t.
We even had our talented Allison Dixon make a handy instructional video to show you how:
You can also use the “My Account” page to:
Update your billing information
Change the email address at which you receive The Ledger
Change your online password
Learn how to solve email delivery issues
If you have any questions, email our friendly and responsive customer support team at support@cltledger.com.
You can also cancel your paid membership or free subscription entirely on that page. There’s also an “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every newsletter we send. We hope you don’t leave, of course — but you should be in full control of how you spend your time and money and not have to labor to extract yourself from something you don’t want, like some magician trying to escape from a padlocked box.
Many media companies, once they get ahold of your email address or credit card information, make it difficult to extricate yourself from their subscriptions. The Federal Trade Commission has warned consumers about companies that engage in “illegal dark patterns that trick or trap consumers into subscription services.” To us, that sounds like a shady and shameful business practice, and we refuse to engage in it.
The Ledger is proud to be accredited by the Better Business Bureau of Southern Piedmont and Western N.C. with an A+ rating:
As always, feel free to email us with any questions or concerns. We try to resolve any billing or delivery issues as quickly as possible.
Thanks, and have a great week.
