Listen up: 🎧 Audio version of The Ledger now available
You can have The Charlotte Ledger's e-newsletters read to you via audio streaming app Spotify.
If you enjoy reading The Charlotte Ledger, you might be interested to know that you now have another option — listening to an audio version.
That means that, if you want, you can listen to The Ledger while in the car, going for a walk or doing the dishes. The audio versions are typically available a few hours after the e-newsletter comes out. We have linked up with a company called Eariously, which converts email newsletters into audio files and distributes them on podcast platforms.
It is read by a computer voice, similar to Alexa or Siri, and we think it sounds pretty good. It might not be for everyone. But maybe you’ll want to check it out to see if you can multitask and save time. Or perhaps you will find it entertaining to hear how a computer voice pronounces “Vi Lyles” or “Ballantyne.”
For instance, here is this morning’s edition:
While our e-newsletters remain the center of our operation and have the most timely and complete information, we are now offering different options on how people can consume the original, Charlotte-focused news and insights that we produce. (It is probably worth noting that all of our material is also always available on our website.)
Where this fits in: The Ledger is working to build a responsible, modern media company focused on smart and essential news and information for Charlotte. This is part of that effort. Let us know what you think.
Details:
Episodes are available on Spotify. You can “follow” The Ledger on Spotify and choose to be notified on your phone when new episodes become available. We will soon be adding other platforms.
The paid versions of our newsletters will not be made available by audio. That consists of our Wednesday and Friday full editions of The Ledger, plus our Tuesday Ways of Life obituaries newsletter.
Our complete Monday Ledger, Thursday Transit Time newsletter, the slimmed-down free versions of our Wednesday and Friday newsletters plus most hot breaking news alerts 🔥 will be available by audio. We hope to add our Saturday “Weekend Edition” shortly as well.
Lengths of the audio briefings typically run between four and 13 minutes.
We have been experimenting with this for the last few weeks. As of this afternoon, we have 17 audio newsletters on Spotify from the last month or so.
Enjoy! Let us know what you think.
Critics love it: Judging by these photos of actual Ledger fans, our new audio briefing appears to be a big hit. Just look at those natural smiles as they enjoy the best Charlotte news The Ledger has to offer.
